How to make phone calls through a third party so that the number called doesn't appear on your phone bill

The simplest way to keep phone numbers off your land lines or cell phone bill is to use third party calling cards. Using calling cards allows you to dial directly into the third party service and from there enter your calling card number, then proceed to entering your desired phone number. Once the calling card minutes are used up, all calls made will not be reported on your phone line, the only number that will show is the third party service number.

Placing Third Party Calls

There are a couple ways to place a third party call for confidential coverage as side from calling cards. You can dial the long distance operator and ask to bill your call to a third number. Dial 00, or 0 plus the area code and telephone number you are calling, or use the 10-10 access code provided by your preferred long distance company. Second, you can dial a special 800 number provided by the long distance company. Typically these are cheaper rates than dialing via the operator. Another route to avoid calls appearing on your land or cell phone bill would be to use a service such as Skype

Protecting your Number

Having the ability to protect your phone number from appearing on a caller ID system is fairly simple to do. Before you dial the number you want to call push *67. Once you enter *67 your phone number will be set to private and will not be shown in the callers display unit. People who also use this technique for covering their phone number when they call you, do not have their phone number details on your bill, it will state on the phone bill, blocked, private or unknown.

You can also contact your phone carrier and request a complete line block for a more permanent solution. With this option, you conceal your identity on every call you make. You can temporarily disable this feature by dialing #82.

Confirm your service is working periodically. Call another phone with caller ID and view the results. Contact your phone carrier immediately if you find your caller ID blocking service is not working.
